People gravitate to cities like bees
to nectar. Cities provide a kind of spiritual
food which nourishes our hopes and strengthens
our resolve. Cities harden us and dehumanize us
even as they replenish us and stimulate us. They
contain great wealth and much poverty. Cities
define civilization in the same way that the
country defines the individual. Peek at the city
life and vicariously imbibe its energy.
