In an ideal world there would be no need for an army or navy. There would be no
terrorists, no dictators, no totalitarians. There would be only peaceful states with contented citizens
who are not jealous of their neighbors, not intolerant of other beliefs, not interested in territorial
expansion, and not hostile to anyone, anywhere. But, since we live in a less than ideal world, we do have armies and navies. In the best of nations, these armed forces are used to provide a service to the citizens. They protect the borders, mobilize aid in times of national disaster, and generally stay out of the politics of governing. This page is dedicated to the best of the armed forces; to the men and women who serve, past and present, that we may be safe. |

| U.S.S. Arizona Pearl Harbor Memorial |
On December 7, 1941, the Imperial Japanese Navy attacked the American naval base at Pearl Harbor in the Hawaiian Islands. Japanese aircraft sank the Pacific fleet with a great loss of life. Some of those ships were refloated and repaired while others remain at the bottom of the harbor, memorials to the men trapped inside. The U.S.S. Arizona was one of the battleships sunk. A simple memorial above the wreck reminds us of the men and women who lost their lives that on that Sunday. |
